The problem

Dot Org Solutions is marketing agency for nonprofit organizations that needed an easy-to-maintain, updated website because their previous website was difficult to manage and frustrating for users to navigate.

The new website needed to consider the needs of nonprofit leaders, and create a reliable, consistent experience across platforms. The website also had to migrate and maintain all content and search engine optimization from the previous site, while moving from WordPress to HubSpot content management system.

The visual design of the website was updated with new brand guidelines and custom illustrations.

Site maps

The previous website navigation map contained many dead-ends and unnecessary menu options that confused users and lead their journeys off the page.

The new information architecture creates a more reliable, predictable experience with more opportunities
for conversion.

Wireframes

Using Gestalt principles, visual and written content was organized into basic layout options for stakeholder approval. These layouts informed the concept prototype and final design patterns of the website.

Visual design informed by competitor analysis

After researching direct and indirect competitors, it became apparent that the stock photography used in the previous website was becoming outdated and uninteresting.

Visual design was refreshed by using a custom set of illustrations for a more modern and inclusive style.

User testing

How easy is it for users to navigate the website on mobile and tablet devices? Are there any functionalities that do not work as intended due to screen size or usability issues?

Unmoderated usability testing was conducted on mobile devices during the design phase, with high-fidelity prototypes.

Participants indicated some text was difficult to read on mobile devices due to color and size. Many users found the website search functionality difficult to use due unorganized, lengthy search results.

Adjustments were made to the interface and experience for a more satisfactory user journey across all devices.
